Zealousness is good (Acts 21:20)! What about if we’re zealous, but not according to Yahweh’s standard of living? Is it still good? Here in Romans 10, Paul, once again, pleads for Israel, and though they were zealous (10:2), it wasn’t according to God’s standard of righteousness. They’ve gone about to establish their own righteousness (10:3). Sounds like the quickest way to go from a vessel of honor to a vessel of dishonor, and for Israel it was (9:25-29). Paul lets us know, as we read this letter, that Christ is the end (literally, the goal) of the Law for righteousness to those who believe. The Law didn’t come to an end with Christ, if it did we would have to do away with Christ for He is the Word of God/the Torah made flesh to show those who believe how to live (10:4). Yeshua died to destroy sin (1 John 3:4) in the flesh, so that the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled in us who walk by faith and not according to the flesh (Rom. 8:3,4). God’s Law, not man’s zealous law, is the standard of righteousness and the means by which we become conformed to the image of Christ…His purpose (Rom. 8:28,29). Could it be done any other way? Paul says NO!
